Sunridge Canyon

SunRidge Canyon is a master-planned community located in Fountain Hills, Arizona. Different neighborhoods, some of which are gated, make up SunRidge Canyon, with both builder-designed and custom single-family homes. Located just northwest of the center of town, residents here are able to take advantage of the wonderful features of Fountain Hills, such as Fountain Park, shopping, restaurants, festivals, entertainment and the nearby enterprises of Fort McDowell.

Clearly, though, the gem of the community is the golf course at SunRidge Canyon Golf Club. It's a par-71 course that's nearly 7,000 yards from the farthest tee box. It is a public course, consistently rated one of the best public courses in Arizona. SunRidge Canyon offers everything you want from a golf course: a challenging layout with spectacular desert and mountain views. This golf course offers a club fitting system and has a Troon Golf Academy on site. Southwestern cuisine and lovely views await at the end of your round (or whenever you are hungry!).

SunRidge Canyon: A Master-Planned Community

As a master-planned community, it is no surprise that SunRidge Canyon has a Homeowner's Association to ensure that the amenities of the community and community standards are kept at a high level for the benefit of its residents. The Fountain Hills Unified School District serves about 2,000 children in the community with an elementary school, middle school, and high school.

Teachers in the Fountain Hills Unified School District earn more than the average in Arizona, and the student to teacher ratio is about 16:1 (2018). School buses provide transportation within the district to the district schools. According to the Arizona Department of Education, at the schools in Fountain Hills, the attendance rate is high, the graduation rate is over 90%, and the dropout rate is negligible.

Get Outside for Fun at SunRidge Canyon

People who love outdoor recreation will spend a good deal of time walking and hiking in the area. Within the community itself, there are several recommended walking tours that vary in length between 2.2 miles and 4.8 miles, with vertical climbs ranging from 100 feet to 360 feet. Some of the walks are all on sidewalks, and most offer spectacular views, gorgeous sunsets, and maybe even a desert creature or two. Take a different route every day; your health (and your dog, if you have one) will appreciate the exercise!

SunRidge Canyon to McDowell Mountain Regional Park

SunRidge Canyon backs up to McDowell Mountain Regional Park, a county park. Not only does this provide exceptional open space adjacent to the community, but it also provides recreational opportunities with more than 50 miles of trails for hiking, mountain biking, and horseback riding. It is one of the largest parks in this regional parks system. There is a hiking trail for everyone at every level of difficulty. Bring the kids, or prepare for serious hiking adventures. Use the Trail Ratings Guide carefully; every year a number of hikers require rescue for one reason or another, usually because they overestimate their fitness and underestimate the desert heat. Similarly, please do not subject your pet to hiking desert trails, or walking on hot roads, in the heat of the summer.

Saguaro Lake and Salt River

All residents of Fountain Hills are within a stone's throw (well, it would be quite a throw) of one of the most popular man-made lakes — actually a reservoir — in Central Arizona. Within about 30 minutes from SunRidge Canyon, Saguaro Lake is a place to delight in the Sonoran Desert, with camping, fishing, boating, hunting, and picnicking opportunities. The lake is part of Tonto National Forest, and permits are required for activities there. For those who don't camp or hike or boat, all-ages friendly tours of the lake on the Desert Belle paddleboat, which launches from the Saguaro Lake Marina, are recommended.

The Salt River flows through Saguaro Lake and water activities on the Lower Salt will provide lifetime memories. While people from all over the Valley of the Sun flock to Salt River Tubing every summer, SunRidge Canyon residents can call Salt River Recreation a neighbor. This private company operates a tubing attraction on the Salt River, with bus transportation from parking areas and tubes included in the price.

Float or rock 'n' roll down the river, depending on the degree of water flow. Some people love it, some, not so much! For a family outing, try to go during the week when there are fewer crowds and less rowdiness. Tubing the Salt should not be an excuse to be drunk or stupid, but it can be a heap of cool fun during the summer months. If you'd rather kayak than tube, you can rent those at Saguaro Lake Guest Ranch. There are short tours for the younger set (minimum age is 12) and the less experienced kayaker, and a longer trip for the hardcore paddler.

No matter how you enjoy Saguaro Lake and the Salt River, keep focused and don't forget to look up! You might spy a bald eagle, hawk, osprey, falcon, vulture or egret. On the canyon walls, watch for bighorn sheep, deer, and javelina. On the river banks, you might notice wild horses, foxes, skunks, and other desert mammals. If you stop along the shore, be aware that you might come across lizards, toads, snakes or scorpions. This is their territory, so be careful and respectful!

Convenience at Your Fingertips

The Fountain Hills community is connected to the greater Phoenix area by Beeline Hwy (SR-87) and Shea Blvd. Scottsdale is less than five miles away, with Fashion Square Mall, Old Town Scottsdale, and Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport all between 30-40 minutes away.

Children in Sunridge Canyon attend McDowell Elementary (K-2nd), Four Peaks Elementary (3rd-5th), Fountain Hills Middle School (6th-8th), and Fountain Hills High School (9th-12th).
